Lars and Jennifer are
dynamic teachers who communicate easily with beginners and experienced
casters alike. These classes require an open area such as a park,
golf course, lawn, or gymnasium.
The Fundamentals of Fly Casting
Discover the beauty and rhythm of casting with a fly rod. You'll practice basic
casting technique, false cast, roll cast, and how to feed line. Allow 2-3 hours
Long Line Casting
For those experienced casters who want to gain distance for river or salt water
fishing. Allow for 2 hours
On the Water
Where access to water is available, this class focuses on presentation of dry,
wet, and nymph patterns, as well as mending the line. Directional casting (upstream,
across, downstream), safe wading techniques, and reading the water are also covered.
Allow 3-4 hours.
Fly Tying
The North Country wet fly (soft hackles). Effective, simple, and beautiful is
how Lars describes this old and highly successful pattern. Using a minimum of
materials he will instruct how to tie several of these patterns including: Partridge
and Orange, Water Hen Bloa, and the Black Spider. In addition, Lars will demonstrate
several patterns from his Gim River series including Gim River duns, nymphs,
and the Squirrel caddis. Students must bring vices and tying materials from a
list provided prior to class. Allow 2-3 hours.
Fear of Split Cane
Has split-cane phobia kept you from fishing or owning a quality split-cane rod?
Are you afraid you will break it — or that it will break your wallet? This
class gives you the opportunity to try a variety of rods, hear about the history
of split-cane rod building, and learn why split cane is rapidly becoming a popular
alternative to graphite. Allow 1-2 hours.
